3×3 Slot Game

A playable slot experience and local gaming-service simulator built as an end-to-end addition to the Stake Engine Web SDK.

I added the Svelte and Pixi game client, integrated it with the SDK's shared state and request packages, and extended the mock RGS so the full wallet, round, bonus, and resume lifecycle could be developed locally.

My contribution

A full vertical slice, not just a reel demo

The work spans player-facing interaction, deterministic game playback, SDK integration, backend simulation, and recovery of interrupted rounds.

Playable game client

Built the responsive Svelte and Pixi experience around shared Web SDK packages rather than creating an isolated demo.

  • Animated three-reel board with line-win and round-win presentation
  • Spin, stop, autoplay, turbo, bet selection, settings, audio, and keyboard controls
  • Responsive control layout for landscape and portrait viewports

State-driven game flow

Connected user actions, RGS responses, and visual playback through explicit actors and typed book events.

  • XState actors coordinate base-game, autoplay, error, and bonus transitions
  • Book-event handlers translate server outcomes into reel and win animations
  • Focused controllers isolate reel motion, reel speed, board selectors, and bonus state

Hold & Spin bonus

Implemented a manually advanced bonus sequence with held centre-reel coins and server-calculated, bet-relative values.

  • Three respins at entry, reset whenever a new coin lands
  • Dedicated intro, respin, accumulation, and outro presentation states
  • Bonus requests return one deterministic event slice at a time until completion

Local mock RGS

Added the backend simulator required to develop wallet and round behaviour without a remote gaming service.

  • Express endpoints for authentication, play, end-round, bet events, and health checks
  • Deterministic base and bonus books with game-specific adapters and payout calculation
  • Persisted sessions and round restoration across local server restarts

Verification

Built for repeatable development

The local service and component harnesses make gameplay states reproducible without depending on a remote RGS or random outcomes.

  • Storybook scenarios for the board, controls, settings, base events, and bonus events
  • Interaction checks for Pixi canvas rendering, reel-speed input, and game modals
  • Node tests covering completed-round recovery and persisted resumable sessions
  • Deterministic local book rotation for repeatable manual testing
